Healthcare & Life Sciences Resume: 50+ ATS Keywords for Clinical, Pharma, and Biotech Roles

July 2, 2026

Healthcare and life sciences hiring runs through ATS platforms as heavily as any industry — often more so, given large hospital systems and pharma companies process enormous applicant volumes per posting. Licensure, certifications, and compliance terminology carry outsized weight in this field's Keyword Match and Education & Certifications scoring.

Clinical / patient care

RN, BSN, MSN, NP, patient care, EHR/EMR (Epic, Cerner), clinical documentation, care coordination, HIPAA compliance, patient safety, interdisciplinary care, case management, clinical assessment.

Licenses and certifications (frequently hard filters)

State licensure (list the exact state and license type — "RN, California, active"), BLS, ACLS, PALS, board certifications by specialty. Never let these sit implied — spell them out exactly as issued, since many healthcare ATS configurations filter hard on license status and state.

Pharma / biotech R&D

Clinical trials, GCP (Good Clinical Practice), GLP (Good Laboratory Practice), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), IND/NDA submissions, protocol development, biostatistics, assay development, drug discovery, pharmacovigilance, clinical data management.

Regulatory affairs / quality

FDA submissions, regulatory strategy, 510(k), quality management systems (QMS), CAPA (corrective and preventive action), ISO 13485, validation protocols, audit readiness, compliance documentation.

Healthcare administration / operations

Revenue cycle management, population health, value-based care, healthcare analytics, provider credentialing, utilization review, HIPAA, Joint Commission accreditation, care quality metrics.

Quantify with outcomes and scale

Weak: "Provided patient care in a fast-paced hospital unit." Strong: "Managed care for 8-12 patients per shift on a 30-bed telemetry unit, maintaining a 98% patient satisfaction score and zero medication errors over 18 months." Patient volume, satisfaction metrics, and safety records are the numbers this field's recruiters and scoring systems both weight heavily.

Don't let compliance formatting become a parsing risk

Credential-heavy resumes sometimes end up formatted with certification logos or badge graphics for visual polish — avoid this. As with any field, graphics and icons don't parse as text, and Section Completeness and Education & Certifications scoring depend on that information existing as plain, readable text.

Title alignment matters more in clinical roles

"Registered Nurse" and "Staff Nurse" can be treated differently by title-matching logic depending on the posting's exact language — mirror the posting's job title terminology in your resume's summary line where it's accurate to your role, rather than assuming close synonyms will match automatically.
