Finance & Consulting Resume: 50+ ATS Keywords for IB, PE, and Strategy Roles

July 1, 2026

Finance and consulting resumes are screened by ATS just as often as tech resumes at large banks, PE shops, and consulting firms — and Keyword Match (25% of your score) leans heavily on specific technical and credentialing terms in this field. Here's the breakdown by track.

Investment banking / capital markets

Financial modeling, DCF (discounted cash flow), LBO (leveraged buyout), comparable company analysis, precedent transactions, valuation, M&A, pitch books, due diligence, capital raising, equity research, fixed income.

Private equity / venture capital

Deal sourcing, portfolio management, LBO modeling, IRR, MOIC, cap table, term sheet, deal execution, value creation, exit strategy, fund performance.

Corporate finance / FP&A

Financial planning & analysis (FP&A), budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, P&L management, financial reporting, cost analysis, KPI reporting, cash flow management, scenario modeling.

Strategy consulting

Market analysis, competitive analysis, business case development, stakeholder management, client engagement, strategic roadmap, operating model design, process improvement, change management, executive presentations.

Credentials and hard filters

CFA (all levels — specify which), CPA, Series 7/63/79 licenses, MBA — these frequently function as literal hard filters in finance ATS configurations. List your exact level ("CFA Level II candidate") rather than implying completion.

Tools recruiters search for

Excel (advanced/VBA), Bloomberg Terminal, Capital IQ, PowerPoint, SQL, Tableau, PowerBI — increasingly expected even in traditionally non-technical finance roles.

Quantify with the numbers finance actually cares about

Weak: "Built financial models for client engagements." Strong: "Built a 3-statement LBO model for a $200M add-on acquisition, presenting findings to the client's C-suite and informing a deal that closed 15% under initial valuation guidance." Deal size, model type, and outcome are three separate scoring signals stacked into one bullet.

Firm-name and deal-name discretion

Confidential deal details should stay confidential (use "a $200M consumer goods acquisition" rather than naming a live deal under NDA) — but the deal type, size range, and your specific role are exactly the keyword-bearing details that should stay in, not get cut for vagueness.

Format still matters — 15% of your score

Finance resumes are notorious for dense, small-font, one-page formatting under real pressure to fit content. Resist the urge to use tables to cram in deal lists — a clean single-column format with tight, well-written bullets scores better than a table-based deal sheet that a parser reads as garbled fragments.
